Knowledge Focus:  What distinguishes this population from their civilian counter-parts with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)/Military Sexual Trauma (MST)

Areas of Focus:

     - Demographic statistics
     - Complicating environmental issues
     - Family (high levels of family/partner violence)
     - Work relationships (MST)
     - Specific Treatment Needs:
     - What keeps people “stuck” with regards to trauma?
     - Conscious vs. subconscious mental processes
     - Loss of connection:  How to re-establish?
     - The power of language and therapeutic metaphor
     - Shifting the client from victim-to-survivor-to-thriver via adjustments in internal dialogue and internal  geography (per Rapid                         Resolution Therapy (RRT), Dr. Jon Connelly)
     - Somatic issues:  Fixed vs. Fluid (per Dr. Peter Levine)
     - Demonstration & Practice of techniques for affect regulation & arousal reduction:

Such as, but not limited to

     · Mindfulness
     · Brain Gym  (Dr. Paul Dennison)
     · Craniosacral techniques (as recommended by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk) self-hypnosis (utilizing current, individualized, and positive              subconscious imagery)
     · A new twist on exposure therapy (with reciprocal inhibition):

PTSD case presentation & discussion of Rapid Resolution Therapy (Dr. Jon Connolly’s method of Rapid Trauma Resolution): military client clearing war trauma(s)

Introduction to Equine-assisted Psychotherapy, as developed by EAGALA (certifying body) and approved by APA to sponsor continuing education for psychologists

Theoretical treatment modalities incorporated:

     - Why horses?
     - Why SO helpful with this population?
     - How this intervention can be incorporated with exposure therapy
     - Testimonials
     - Other evidence-based treatment strategies for this population

Day 2: 

Can be taken in isolation, or with Day 1 for a total of 10 CEs)

Introduction to, demonstration of, and participation in equine co-facilitated modalities.  Wrap up, and how to modify these techniques for other populations.  Example:  Children with autism, heart stress, family conflict situations.
